Cho Yong Pil Concert

Cho Yong Pil is known as Korea's most notable pop musician of the 20th century. Cho has produced many memorable hits that have left a deep impact on Korean music. Some of his greatest hits include, "Return to Busan Port", "Dear Friend", and "The Lady Outside the Window".

After graduating Kyongdong High School in 1968, Cho joined the country western group Atkins and the Five Fingers as the vocalist of the group. In 1970, he formed the group Kim Trio and went on to receive Best Group Award at the Sunday Seoul Cup Pop Group Contest with their song "Dear".

In 1972, Cho moved onto Group 25 and in 1974 formed the group Cho Yong Pil and the Shadows. With this group he produced "Return to Busan Port", one of his most famous songs. With the first performance of this song, Cho rose to stardom. This song has become a national favorite and is still sung by people of all ages.

He returned to the scene in 1979 with Cho Yong Pil and the Great Birth. In 1980, he recorded "The Lady Outside the Window" for the soundtrack of a radio drama, which instantly hit the top of the charts. His position as the top artist of Korea led to an invitation to perform at the prestigious Carnegie Hall.

That same year in November, Cho received the first prize at the Seoul National Music Festival and since then achieved numerous high honors in various awards shows and contests, including KBS and MBC's annual end of the year awards shows. In 1986, he declared that he would not participate in the end-of-year awards show, and will only do live performances.

Cho has been a great influence to Korean pop music. Throughout his music career he has endeavored to explore music to the best of his abilities, producing music from various genres such as rock, trot, ballad, fusion, and folk.

He has a total of 18 albums that are a testament to his greatness.
