조용필과 더불어 '작은거인'이란 애칭을 지닌 김수철. 용산공고
1학년 때 록밴드 '파이어 폭스'를 결성했던 그는 고3 때 명동성당에서
최초로 록을 연주했던 괴물 고교생 록커였다. 귀청을 얼얼하게 하는
하드코어 록 사운드로 경건한 성당을 뒤집어 놓았던 것.
1978년 4인조 대학생 밴드 '작은거인'으로 공식 음악활동을 시작한
그는 1979년 한양대에서 열렸던 제1회 전국 대학가요 경연대회에서
동요 풍의 밝은 곡 '일곱 색깔 무지개'로 금상을 수상하며 대학가
최고 인기스타로 떠올랐다
