(정말 오랫만에 여기에 글을 쓰는군요)
십년도 더 된 때였습니다.
제가 미국에서 대학을 다닐때 리비아에서 온 유학생친구랑 같이 기숙사 생활을
했었습니다. 전 그때도 조용필이라면 거의 까므라치게 좋아했을때라, 기숙사
방에서도 거의 필님의 노래를 듣곤 했었죠. 마침 10집 Part2를 한국에서 공수해다가
들었는데, 말하라, 그대들이 본것이 무엇인가를 자주 들었더랬습니다
그랬더니 옆에서 같이 듣게 되던 친구가 점점 이노래가 좋아졌나봅니다.
당시 그는 비슷한풍의 팝송 '제니'를 들었었는데, 카리스마 넘치는 힘의
목소리인, 특히 후렴에서 악(?)을 쓰는 부분에서 뿅갔더랬습니다.
결국 그친구는 나한테 테입을 복사해서 자기도 듣으면서 부탁하길, 나중에
내가 한국에 나가면 CD로 하나 부탁한다고 하더군요
그런데, 이무심한 놈이....본인이...
방학동안에 한국에 나와서 친구것은 안사고, 내것만 하나 달랑 사가가지고
미국으로 돌아갔네요. 근데 그 CD를 친구한데 보여주니까, 친구는 으례 자기것
인줄알고 받으려다가, 아냐, 그거 내꺼야하니까, 적잖이 실망을 하더군요
그러면서 '그CD 자기 주고, 너는 또 한국에 갈꺼니까 그때 또 사라'고 했는데
결국 전 그걸 주지않았죠
그후, 대학을 졸업할때까지 그친구는 항상 제가 가장 소중한 친구로서, 많은
도움을 주고 제편에 섰었죠. 남들이 나에 대해 나쁘게 말할때도, 그친구는 항상
무식하리만치 제편이 되어 주었죠
근데 이 은혜도 모르는 저는 별로 그친구에게 제대로 고맙다는 인사도 못하고
한국에 돌아오고 연락도 끊겨버리고 말았죠. 거의 7년의 세월이 연락이 두절된채
지나버린거죠. 지금도 그친구를 생각하면 정말로 제자신이 부끄러웠죠
고마운 사람들에게 제대로 고맙다는 말도 못했기에.
나의 CD 한장 주지도 못했던 나의 소심함등....
그런데..
몇일전 우연히 대학 홈피에 갔다가 동창명부에서 그친구 이메일 주소를 발견한겁니다
저는 너무 기뻐 메일을 날렸죠. 그 친구에게서도 바로 답장이 왔습니다
놀랍게도 그친구가 다니는 미국회사가 아남과 기술제휴가 되어있어 1년에 한국을
두번이나 방문하다더군요. 이미 6번이나 한국에 출장을 오기도 했더랍니다.
그때마다 나를 찾을려고 노력을 했는데, 한양에서 김서방찾기죠. 아무런 단서도 없이
무슨수로 찾겠습니까?
그런데 내가 연락을 하니 무지 기뻐하더군요.
이제 제가 그에게 한 첫번째 선물이 조용필 10집 Part.2 입니다
좀전에 DHL로 보냈으니, 몇일후에 받겠죠.
10년전에 사주었어야 되는데, 이제야 보내다니 미안하기도 하지만, 그동안의
미안함을 조금이라도 갚는거 같네요
그친구가 아직도 그노래를 기억하고 있길 바랍니다.
아마 소포를 열어보면, 깜짝 놀랄껍니다
